10/05/09 - Katko, Herrmann Lead Midwest to Slammin’ 10’s Title

Ernie Katko, Academy Director with Kenny Herrmann, 10Herrmann Tennis Academy Director Ernie Katko and rising star Kenny Herrmann helped lead the Midwest Section to the title at the Slammin 10’s Inter-sectional Team Rally.  This non-sanctioned event is sponsored by the Texas Tennis & Education Foundation.  The Slammin’ 10’s brings together the top ten-and-under players from the Midwest, Texas, Intermountain, Missouri Valley, and Southwest Sections.

This marks the fourth consecutive year that Katko has been chosen to represent the Midwest as a coach at this event. Katko is a member of USTA/Midwest Coaches Commission and a USTA High Performance Coach. He has been developing Nationally-Ranked players and coaching at National events for more than 20 years. Katko has been the Director of Herrmann Tennis Academy for the past nine years.

"This a great event for these players. It is the first team atmosphere for most of the players. It develops their team camaraderie and also their ability to absorb on-court coaching during matches. Congratulations to the team!"

Herrmann went 10-2 in his matches at the event as the Midwest cruised to the title.  Kenny’s results were especially impressive in doubles as he combined to go 6-0 with his partners Robert Cash and Camile Townsend.  In the finals against Texas-Red Herrmann 4-0 went as the Midwest won 20-16.

“I was quite pleased with Kenny’s results in this tournament,” said HTA Head Coach Ben Ashford.  “To go 10-2 in one’s first national-level event is very impressive.”  Herrmann is ranked 14th in the Midwest Section and 3rd in the Chicago District.

“It is an extreme honor to have both a player and a coach from our Academy represent our section at this event,” noted HTA Owner Ken Herrmann.
