09/10/09 - McFadden Captures First Title

MIchael McFaddenHerrmann Tennis Academy ten year-old Michael McFadden captured the first tournament of his promising career, winning the Wildcat Fall-Kickoff Challenger held at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. on August 30, 2009.

In his first match the top-seeded McFadden knocked out Alexander Vinarov 6-3, 6-3.  In the finals McFadden dropped the first set 4-6 to Jonny Raab, before storming back to take the second 6-3.  In the third set superbreak McFadden got on a hot streak and won 10-5 to take the title.

“Michael is one of the most passionate players in our program,” noted HTA head coach Jackie Jenkins.  “He has been extremely involved in our drills and match plays and the hard work is apparent in this title.”

The title launched McFadden up over 20 spots in the USTA Midwest rankings as he rose to 100.
