01/23/09 - Kahn Strikes Again

Maddy KahnTen year old phenom Maddy Kahn won her seventh title in the last nine months, capturing the Girls’ 12s Lincolnshire January Challenger held January 17-18. Kahn has accumulated her seven titles in just fourteen tournaments.

Kahn entered the tournament seeded fourth in the twenty-one player draw. Kahn took her first match with ease, winning 6-0, 6-1 against Michelle Kannenberg.  In her next match Kahn dropped the first set 6-3 against Taylor Tamblyn, before storming back to win 6-2 in the second.  Kahn and Tamblyn matched each other point for point in the tie-break before Kahn pulled away at the end 10-8.

In the semifinals Kahn faced Michelle Linden, a player she lost to in the finals of the GRC January Championships two weeks earlier.  The first set was tied 6 all, when Kahn caught fire to take the tiebreak 7-2.  In the second set Kahn got the break she needed to take the set 6-4.  In the finals Kahn topped unseeded Vistella Bozhlova 6-4, 6-3 for the championship.

The Lincolnshire Club has turned into a second home for Maddy as she has gone 10-1 in her three career tournaments played there.

“I am very pleased that Maddy has been able to maintain a high level of play as she has moved from the 10s to the 12s,” noted HTA Coach Djordje Uskokovic.  “It would be very easy for Maddy to get complacent with the results she has had, but she continues to work extremely hard.”
