01/21/09 - Marbach Takes Two Titles to End 2008

MarbchHTA Star, Eric Marbach won two Boys’ 16 tournaments at the Rush-Copley Healthplex in Aurora, Ill. to end 2008.  Marbach, a 14 year old, was unseeded in both events and took each title without dropping a set.

In the November Classic, Marbach beat the fifth, third, and sixth seeds on his way to the tournament title.  In his four matches Marbach only lost 11 games and didn’t drop a game in four of his eight sets played.

In the Holiday Open, Marbach cruised through his first two matches winning 6-0, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0, respectively.  In The quarterfinals Marbach dropped third-seeded Michael Baiocchi 6-0, 6-0 and in the semifinals he eliminated #1 seed Christian Lynn 6-1, 6-1.  In the finals Marbach topped #4 seed Brian Galvin 6-1, 6-0.

“Eric has now won four B16 Challenger events,” said HTA Director Ernie Katko.  “He is making remarkable progress in building his transition for aging up into the 16’s.”

Marbach finished 2008 with five tournament titles and he is 85-37 in the past year.  He is ranked 10th in the USTA Midwest Section in the Boys’ 14 division.
