01/20/09 -HTA Players Take On Evan King

Evan KingEvan King, the second ranked 18 year old in the United States, was at Glenbrook Racquet Club over winter break and participated in a drill session with some of our top 12-16 year old players.

King is the six highest rated college recruit in the country and has accepted a scholarship to play at the University of Michigan next fall.  He currently trains under the supervision of the USTA at Evert’s Academy in Boca Raton, Florida.

King frequently played at the academy while growing up and his father Van is a teaching pro at the club.  “Evan is a great young man and our players were clearly inspired by seeing the top junior in the United States play,” noted Academy Owner Ken Herrmann.  “I expect Evan to have an outstanding college career and I anticipate that he will be one of the top U.S. players on the pro tour in three to five years.  Evan has always been incredibly gracious and it was no surprise that he took the time to hit with the players in the academy.”

Evan and OudesmaKing was at GRC playing with Kalamazoo native and professional player Scott Oudsema.  Oudsema has been ranked as high as 255 in the world in singles and 151 in doubles.  He has won over $150,000 on tour.  As a junior he was the top ranked 18 year-old in the Midwest Section in 2002.

The HTA juniors who attended the holiday camp had the opportunity to play out points against Evan.
